The death toll in three separate coal mine accidents has risen to 19 with 22 still trapped underground, the State press reported today.
In the first accident, rescue workers have recovered a total of 15 bodies from the flooded coal mine in east China's Shandong province. The coal mine was flooded on July 26, trapping 37 miners working underground.
The disaster was caused by water in a surface pool leaking into the coal mine. Currently, two miners have been saved while rescue efforts are still underway to find the remaining 10.
In the second accident, 12 miners are trapped underground after a flood in a State-owned coal mine in southwest China's Chongqing municipality today. Nineteen people were working in the Yanwan coal mine in Shanpingba district of Chongqing when the accident occurred.
The coal mine was flooded on July 26, trapping 37 miners working underground. According to an earlier report, the disaster was caused by water in a surface pool leaking into the coal mine.
Currently, two miners have been saved while rescue efforts are still underway.
In the third accident, four miners are dead and 10 injured after a gas explosion in a coalmine shaft in Shuangfeg county, central China's Hunan province, yesterday, Xinhua news agency reported.
Two miners died instantly in the 3:40 pm blast, while two others were seriously injured and died soon after in hospital. The other 10 injured are all believed to have minor injuries.
